The Lebanese Islamist movement Hezbollah has launched a new wave of rocket attacks on Israeli military bases.

According to the Israeli military, around 40 projectiles were fired from Lebanon towards the Golan Heights and Galilee, but most were reportedly shot down.

The attack comes a day after what is described as Hezbollah's most extensive rocket attack on Israel since the Gaza war began on 7 October last year. On Wednesday, over 200 rockets were fired at the country, according to Israeli media.

The Israeli government says it will respond "with force" to Hezbollah.

Regardless of whether it is through diplomatic efforts or otherwise, Israel will restore security at our northern border, says the government's spokesperson David Mencer at a press conference.

Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah have been exchanging fire almost daily since the Gaza war began following Hamas's attack on Israel in October. On Tuesday, a high-ranking commander within Hezbollah was killed in an Israeli air raid in southern Lebanon.
