There will be no criticism from the Parliamentary Ombudsman regarding the prosecutor's handling of the so-called "Swishlist" in Sundsvall last year.

The Swishlist became a national news story in the summer of 2023 when the names and phone numbers of hundreds of Sundsvall residents who had transferred money to a drug dealer in the city via Swish were made public in the preliminary investigation of a major drug case.

This contributed to a debate about whether it was acceptable for the prosecutor's handling to have led to individuals being identified as potential drug buyers. As a result, the Parliamentary Ombudsman has now investigated this and concluded that there is no reason for criticism.

"I understand if the people on the list may have felt uncomfortable and that it was an intrusion into their personal integrity. A prosecutor, however, has a great deal of freedom to decide what evidence to present in a case, while naturally ensuring that sensitive personal data is not spread unnecessarily. In this case, I have found no reason to criticise the prosecutor's handling of the information," says Parliamentary Ombudsman Per Lennerbrant in a press release.
