Woman in Beit Lahia: They Have Killed Everyone

Nearly 90 people are either dead or missing after Israel's attack on Beit Lahia in northern Gaza, according to Palestinian authorities. Many of them are women and children. The death toll is exaggerated, claims Israel. Meanwhile, alarm reports are coming in from several hospitals.

About 40 people are injured and dozens more are believed to be trapped in the rubble since Israel bombed the densely populated Beit Lahia near Jabalia on Saturday. Rescue efforts in the ruins continue on Sunday. The authorities in Hamas-controlled Gaza describe the attack on several residential buildings as a massacre.

We were sitting and talking when a large concrete block suddenly fell on us. What's left? They've killed everyone, says a woman in tears to CNN.

According to the woman, Israel told the Gazans to go to Beit Lahia – and then bombed them there.

Israel says it is checking the reports of the attack, which they claim was directed at Hamas targets. The military claims that the reported death toll is "exaggerated".

On Sunday, the UN envoy to the Middle East, Norwegian Tor Wennesland, condemns the attack.

Hospital under fire

Beit Lahia, like Jabalia and Beit Hanun, has been besieged by Israeli forces since October 6.

According to several reports, aid deliveries to the area have been almost completely cut off since then. The same applies to phone and internet connections. Hundreds of Palestinians are said to have been killed.

The residents have been urged to evacuate, but after over a year of war, the escape routes in Gaza are considered limited.

On Sunday, six people, including a child, were killed in an Israeli attack on a car in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, according to the Gaza health care system.

There are also reports that several hospitals in northern Gaza have been surrounded and shelled by Israeli soldiers. According to Hussam Abu Safia, head of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia, violent clashes have raged for hours. The hospital's water tank and power grid have been damaged, and patients and staff are in danger, he says in a press release on Sunday, according to several media outlets.

WHO delivers equipment

Eid Sabbah, a doctor at the same hospital, appeals to BBC for an end to the Israeli attacks "before it's too late". Saturday's attack on Beit Lahia leveled four or five complexes with private homes, he says.

Some of the injured reached the hospital, others are still under the rubble, he says.

Photos taken at the hospital show several children among the dead. Other photos show children with severe injuries.

WHO will try to deliver fuel, blood, food, and medical equipment to Kamal Adwan on Sunday, says General Secretary Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who on Saturday announced that he had been informed of Israeli attacks on two more hospitals in the area, al-Awda and Indonesian Hospital.
