She was in town to meet a friend when she encountered the intoxicated man. According to witnesses, he seemed angry when he started talking to Frederiksen and then hit her with a clenched fist on the shoulder.

The Prime Minister was taken to Rigshospitalet with a minor neck injury. Afterwards, she had to cancel several meetings and could not complete her last campaign day before the EU election.

The court's decision follows the prosecutor's line entirely.

If you hit a Prime Minister, expose yourself to young girls, and steal from stores, you should be sentenced to four months in prison, said prosecutor Anders Larsson during his pleading.

The 38-year-old defendant has denied assaulting the Prime Minister, but he is now convicted of violence against a public official.

His defense attorney has questioned the charge and claimed that the Prime Minister was not on duty at the time.

The convicted person will not appeal the verdict, according to his defense attorney. He is banned from returning to Denmark for six years.
