Vietnamese police have arrested 16 men and women linked to a league suspected of smuggling infants, reports state media. The arrested individuals are accused of having traded babies aged three days to three months, according to Ho Chi Minh City's official police newspaper.

The league has allegedly targeted women on social media and exploited those who have had difficulty supporting and caring for their children.

According to reports, children have been bought for approximately 4,000-9,500 kronor. The organization is then said to have falsified adoption papers and sold the children for around 14,000-30,000 kronor.

The police have investigated 84 suspected cases of infant smuggling so far this year in 32 of the country's cities and provinces.
