Israeli nationalists clashed with Palestinians on Wednesday at the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.

The disturbances occurred ahead of an Israeli march through the city.

On Wednesday, thousands of Israeli nationalists marched through the predominantly Arab quarters of Jerusalem, shouting slogans while doing so. The route of the march has been seen by Palestinians as an intentional provocation.

Before the march, a dozen Israelis clashed with Palestinians at the Temple Mount. The violence was stopped by police. Several people were injured and arrested, according to Haaretz.

To avoid disturbances during the pro-Israeli demonstration, around 3,000 police were called in, and several barriers were set up at Damascus Gate, which separates the city's older parts.

Israel's security minister, the far-right Itamar Ben-Gvir, spoke to an audience before the march was to begin.

The march was organized on Jerusalem Day, which commemorates the Israeli army's capture of the city's eastern parts during the 1967 war. Thousands of people participated in the annual demonstration.
