Till cheers and applause from the control room in California, the massive rocket Starship landed with a big splash in the Indian Ocean.

About an hour earlier, SpaceX's enormous prototype rocket had been launched from Boca Chica, Texas, with the goal of reaching space and returning to the Earth's atmosphere before landing in the ocean.

Some parts of the rocket are said to have broken off or burned up, but exactly how much is still unclear. SpaceX is counting this as the fourth successful attempt.

Founder and CEO Elon Musk congratulated on X to a "great achievement" and the team in the Hawthorne control room celebrated with marshmallows, according to NBC News.

The massive rocket is intended to take people to the moon and later to Mars.

Three previous attempts have ended with Starship being destroyed, which the company considers an acceptable cost to quickly test and improve.

Last April and November, the spacecraft exploded during launch. In mid-March this year, the third launch attempt was more successful. Then, Starship made it all the way to space but burned up during re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere.
