The Ibn Rushd Study Association is discontinuing its operations. The decision was made at an extraordinary national meeting and is a consequence of the Swedish National Council of Adult Education announcing that the association will not receive any government grants from next year.

Several municipalities and regions have recently withdrawn their support for the criticized Muslim study association following the Swedish National Council of Adult Education's review in December.

Ibn Rushd has faced criticism, among other things, for linking to websites with texts stating that homosexuality is prohibited and that corporal punishment is permitted under certain circumstances.

In a press release from the Study Associations in Cooperation, Chairman Gunnar Danielsson writes:

"The loss of the Ibn Rushd Study Association means that the breadth and diversity of Swedish adult education will decrease. The Ibn Rushd Study Association has consistently profiled itself towards the large Muslim population group based on the important goal of making Muslims a natural part of Sweden."

Ibn Rushd is a Swedish study association founded in 2001 on the initiative of the Islamic Association in Sweden. A significant part of its operations is conducted within the subject areas of Arabic language and religious studies, primarily Islam.

Since 2008, the association has received government grants through the Swedish National Council of Adult Education. In 2022, the grant amounted to around 29 million kronor. In 2024, the funds are estimated to amount to around 25 million.

The study association also receives grants for its local districts via municipalities and regions.
