We have had a very clear threat picture against Jewish institutions that has affected our security assessment, says police spokesperson Rebecka Landberg to TT.
The police's message comes after Tuesday's shooting at Israel's embassy in Stockholm. During the night to Wednesday, an explosion also occurred near Israel's embassy in Copenhagen.
At the same time, the conflict in the Middle East continues to escalate – and on Wednesday, the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, begins.
In both Malmö and Göteborg, the police presence is being increased, reports Sveriges Radio. Additionally, security is being heightened at Jewish objects and for public gatherings with Israeli and Jewish interests.
According to Rebecka Landberg, police spokesperson in Stockholm, there is a clear threat picture against Jewish institutions that has increased over the past year.
So we have already implemented security-enhancing measures. Nothing has changed today, but we will investigate whether additional measures need to be taken after yesterday's incident against Israel's embassy, she says.
