There are only days left until the highly publicized debate between Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, and the Democrats' Kamala Harris – and Trump is taking the opportunity to crank up the rhetoric.

On social media, he repeated his false claim that the 2020 US presidential election was affected by widespread fraud. And he added that he will ensure that everything goes smoothly in the upcoming election.

"When I win, those who cheated will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, which will include long prison sentences so that this perversion of justice does not happen again", Trump writes.

He adds that this applies to both lawyers and politicians, those who donate money, and what Trump calls "illegal voters and corrupt election officials".

"Those involved in unscrupulous behavior will be sought out, arrested, and prosecuted on levels that, unfortunately, have never been seen in our country", Trump writes.

In response, Marc Elias, a prominent election lawyer in Harris' campaign, writes that they will not be intimidated by Trump, who is "desperate because he is on the verge of losing".

"We will not let him suppress voting. We will not let him overturn the election. We will not let him cheat. We will fight and we will win", Elias writes on X.

There is no evidence that fraud affected the 2020 election when Donald Trump lost to Joe Biden. On the contrary, a number of investigations have shown that Biden won fairly.
