Ukraine has been using American weapons to strike targets inside Russia over the past few days, according to American sources for the AP news agency.
The weapons are said to have been used in accordance with the rules set by the US for use against Russia. This applies to attacks on Russian forces that are attacking Ukraine and not attacks with, for example, Atacms robots or deeper into Russia.
The US was reported to have given Ukraine permission at the end of May to use American weapons to strike targets inside Russia.
Several countries have wavered on the sensitive issue of allowing Ukraine to fire foreign weapons at targets in Russia since Ukraine's second-largest city, Kharkiv, has been heavily bombarded almost unimpeded.
The million-city lies about two miles from the border and has resisted occupation forces during the nearly two-year-long war – but stands largely defenseless against a heavy Russian bombardment from close range.
