Wiretap Children Under 15 Years Old

The Social Democrats say that society is in an acute national crisis as brutal violence is affecting younger and younger ages. The Social Democrats propose that children under 15 years of age can be subject to secret coercive measures.

We are in an acute and national crisis where children are being exploited as child soldiers by adults, says S leader Magdalena Andersson.

The legislation for using secret coercive measures, such as wiretapping, during a criminal investigation is limited to 15 years. This is what S wants to change.

"Protect their lives"

This is about protecting children's privacy and integrity, but with the development we see today, it must be weighed against the risk of them being drawn into crime and protecting their lives, says Magdalena Andersson.

This means that the legislation would provide the same opportunity for wiretapping regardless of age, she continues.

The proposal is currently being investigated by the government and a proposal is to be submitted on December 20 this year.

S also wants to speed up the introduction of so-called youth crime councils, modeled on the Danish system. A new authority will be established where children and young people can receive interventions such as treatment for drug addiction, requirements for school attendance, or participation in leisure activities. There is no lower age limit.

The state must step forward and take clearer responsibility for young people who are on their way into crime, says S's justice policy spokesperson Ardalan Shekarabi.

Part of the Tidö Agreement

The party wants an implementation committee to be set up and will submit a proposal for this when the Riksdag opens again next week.

The proposal for new crime councils was presented by the Social Democrats in 2022, and an investigator submitted a proposal to the government in May 2024, but no date for implementation has been set yet.

In the Tidö Agreement, the government and SD agree that a system with youth crime councils will be tested in Sweden.
