Two woodpeckers outside Skellefteå are said to have caused damage to a residential house worth around 50,000 kronor. Now, the County Administrative Board is granting protective hunting of the two woodpeckers, despite the species, the great spotted woodpecker, being protected, reports P4 Västerbotten.
The property owner has tried to scare away the birds, without result, and despite previous protective hunting of a woodpecker, the damage has not ceased.
Now, the County Administrative Board is making an exception and granting hunting of two woodpeckers.
The great spotted woodpecker is protected, but the population is increasing and is assessed by SLU (Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences) as viable.
