The Jewish Central Council, which is an association of Jewish congregations in Sweden, has decided that the Left Party is no longer welcome at memorial ceremonies, after several representatives of the party have expressed themselves antisemitically and shown support for terrorist organizations.
The parties will now meet, after the Left Party has contacted them and requested a meeting. The details are not yet set, but it may take place next week.
What is required for the Left Party to be welcomed by you again?
It's not like we're coming with any demands or lists, says Aron Verständig to TT.
The problems we have pointed out are not about individual people. They are structural problems, and then it's about showing a willingness to handle them.
Left Party leader Nooshi Dadgostar announced directly after the decision was made known that the party would contact the organization. Verständig also believes that she takes the problems seriously.
I think Nooshi Dadgostar has been very clear.
But at the same time, we have, over the past year, and especially last summer and now during the autumn, been met with very many different revelations and cases where individuals have said things that are outright antisemitic and received support from large groups within the Left Party.
When the Sweden Democrats entered the Riksdag, the Jewish Central Council decided not to invite them.
I see no reason to reconsider that decision, says Aron Verständig.
He says at the same time that they are always open to meetings.
But it must also be serious. It must be a meeting that is about wanting to discuss something.
Two Left Party members, Orwa Kadoura in Malmö and Ali Hadrous in Landskrona, have left the party after being criticized for antisemitic statements.
In the Left Party's local association in Angered, chairman Kristofer Lundberg is currently suspended while he is being investigated for having shown support for the terrorist-classified Palestinian PFLP.
