AIK won crazy storm meeting at Gamla Ullevi

IFK Gothenburg seemed to have secured a crucial point ahead of the Allsvenskan final sprint. But Benjamin Tiedemann Hansen had other plans. In extra time, he made it 2–1 for his AIK.

The storm meeting at Gamla Ullevi was a football match for a long time more characterized by struggle rather than fine play. That 1–0 came in connection with a throw-in in the first half felt therefore not entirely illogical.

Dino Besirovic got a leg on teammate Eskil Edh's shot – a deflection that fooled IFK Göteborg's Jacob Karlström.

The ending, however, was a dramatic story. For with one minute left of regular time, Sebastian Ohlsson equalized. But in the sixth minute of added time, another turnaround came when Tiedemann Hansen made it 2–1 for AIK.

It's goals like these you dream of, says the Dane to Max afterwards.

Completely fantastic. This was for the team and the whole club. Now we have something to play for in the last three matches.

After four wins in the last six matches, AIK is now third in the Allsvenskan table. Two points behind second-placed Hammarby and one point ahead of third-placed Djurgården.

Adequate police force

Due to Sunday's interrupted derby between Hammarby and Djurgården, there was some concern about another high-risk Allsvenskan match.

Before the match started at Gamla Ullevi, the police's press spokesperson August Brandt told TT that the police had an adequate force in place to handle any potential disturbances.

However, there were no scandalous scenes like those at Tele2 Arena this evening.

"Positional warfare"

Already after a couple of minutes, the Dane Laurs Skjellerup had a dangerous shooting opportunity for IFK Göteborg. But otherwise, "Blåvitt" – who came from two straight Allsvenskan wins – had a very hard time creating much in the first half.

It's a lot of positional warfare out there. Not much play on the ground, many duels. We need to keep the ball more, said IFK Göteborg's Sebastian Ohlsson to Max at halftime.

Coach Stefan Billborn demanded more intensity – and it did get intense in the end. But maybe not in the way "Blåvitt" had hoped for.

The loss means that IFK Göteborg still has three points down to the relegation spot with three matches left to play.

It's terribly bad by us, and means that we lose a point that would have been very important to get, says the club's assistant coach Joachim Björklund.
