There was not much that spoke in favor of crisis-ridden Modo ahead of the away game in SHL ice hockey against Linköping on Thursday. Six straight losses, zero points on away games, and in three out of four away games, the Övik team had been shut out.
But against Linköping, the goals poured in at both ends in the thrilling encounter.
After two periods of play, a total of nine goals had been scored, three in the first and six in the second, and Modo had the lead with 5–4.
But despite scoring five goals, it would all end in defeat for the seventh match in a row.
"Easy to happen"
Ty Rattie scored the equalizer with just over three minutes left, and took it to overtime.
It gets a bit panicky at times and a bit stressful, but it's easy to happen in these kinds of matches, says Modo's team captain David Rundblad.
There, the East Swedes would also emerge victorious, after Robin Kovács had decided and sent the extra points to the home team.
Thus, Modo suffered their seventh straight loss in the league, and still have not won a single match on away games. After ten rounds, the team is at the bottom of the table and has only earned six points in ten matches.
Despite this, Rundblad thinks there are positive things to take from Thursday's loss.
I think we're playing a good game. Actually, the best in a long time now. So, I mean we take a point, it's a step in the right direction.
First since January
A team that, on the other hand, took a long-awaited away win was HV71. The team snatched the season's second three-pointer in the bottom-of-the-table clash with Leksand, after a 5–2 win. Veteran Mattias Tedenby became one of the heroes, after scoring both his third and fourth goals of the season.
The last time the Jönköping team won on away games was on January 4.
