The Hjälmargös, Vindelnrökt skinka, and Lappländsk Fjällröding are awarded a protected designation of origin by the EU. The purpose is to help producers highlight the product's quality and increase interest in its origin.
"The protected designations promote not only our high-quality Swedish agricultural and food products but also contribute to preserving production and jobs in rural areas and strengthening Swedish food production and tourism in the regions," says Minister for Rural Affairs Peter Kullgren (KD) according to a press release from the government.
The protected designation means that the products must be manufactured according to certain regulations. This means that for Vindelnrökt skinka, the entire production process from salting to smoking and cutting must take place in the geographical area of Degerfors parish in Västerbotten.
The Hjälmargös, as the name suggests, must be fished in Lake Hjälmaren, and the Lappländsk Fjällröding must be caught in watercourses in Arjeplog, Arvidsjaur, Lycksele, Vilhelmina, and Åsele municipalities, as well as Malå parish in Lapland.
Allåkerbär from Norrland, Bohusläns blåmusslor, Gotlandslins, Grebbestadostron, Hjälmargös, Hånnlamb, Kalix Löjrom, Rökt Vättersik, Upplandskubb, Vänerlöjrom, Wrångebäcksost, Bruna bönor från Öland, Kullings kalvdans, Lappländsk Fjällröding, Skedvi Bröd, Skånsk spettkaka, Svecia, Svensk Akvavit, Svensk Punsch, Svensk Vodka, Sörmlands Ädel, Vindelnrökt skinka, Vit färsksaltad Östgötagurka, Värmländskt skrädmjöl, and Äkta Gränna Polkagrisar are Swedish products that have been registered in the EU as a protected designation of origin or protected geographical indication.
