"Serious Tasks"

Three Swedish citizens are suspected of involvement in an explosion near Israel's embassy in Copenhagen during the night. These are of course serious allegations, says Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer (The Moderate Party) to TT.

The police investigation is in an early stage, but we are of course following the development very closely. I have ongoing contact with my Danish counterpart Peter Hummelgaard and our police authorities are naturally cooperating closely with each other, continues Strömmer.

According to the Danish police, two hand grenades are said to have exploded near the Israeli embassy in Hellerup, just north of Copenhagen.

Three Swedish citizens between 15 and 20 years old have been arrested, one near the embassy and the other two on a train at Copenhagen Central Station. The exact suspicion of crime has not been established.

Too Early

Whether the act in Denmark can be linked to the shooting at the Israeli embassy in Stockholm on Tuesday evening is too early to say, according to the Minister of Justice.

Police investigations are underway in both Denmark and Sweden. What these investigations lead to remains to be seen.

Are you worried that Iran is behind this and has hired Swedish gang criminals to carry out the act?

At present, I have no such information, but as I said, the police investigations have just started and we'll see what they give. We have previously seen such examples, but what has happened in these cases remains to be seen.

"Common Interests"

Is it embarrassing to have to talk to your Danish colleague again about Swedes suspected of serious crimes in Denmark?

Both I and he and our respective governments, of course, have a focus on maintaining security and safety, both for embassies, but also for citizens in our respective countries. That is the common starting point and common interests that are the focus of our contacts.
