The common intention has been known since the beginning of the year, when Fredrik Reinfeldt, chairman of the Swedish Football Association (SvFF), announced that the countries planned to submit an application.

Now, SvFF and its Danish counterpart DBU have officially announced that they are entering the competition to host the Women's European Championship 2029.

"Together with Denmark, we see an opportunity to host the most well-attended Women's European Championship. We know how much it means to be involved in hosting championships, not least to inspire and encourage more girls to take up football", says Reinfeldt to SvFF's website.

The work on assembling an attractive European Championship package has already begun. Among other things, dialogue is underway with potential Swedish host cities such as Gothenburg, Malmö, Solna, and Stockholm.

A total of eight match arenas will be developed, but a final plan for the intended playing venues will be presented later in the process.

Another interested party is Germany, which announced its bid for the European Championship 2029 as recently as Friday. Both Portugal and Poland have previously announced their intention to host the championship.

Uefa is expected to make a decision on the host country in December 2025.
