Donald Trump does not want to see any interest rate cuts before the election in November, as he is trying to become president again.

This would benefit the sitting president, Trump suggests once again, now in an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek.

It's something they know they shouldn't do, says Trump, addressing the US Federal Reserve.

Analysts expect two rate cuts this year, at least one of them before the election. The interview was conducted last month but published on Tuesday.

Trump says he intends to let Fed Chairman Jerome Powell stay on until 2026, when his current term expires.

I would let him stay on, especially if I think he's doing the right things, says Trump.

It was Trump who gave Powell a seat on the central bank's board in 2018, but Joe Biden who appointed him as chairman in 2022.

Trump has repeatedly criticized Powell's interest rate policy and promises a policy of low inflation and lower taxes if he becomes president again.

In February, the former president said he dislikes the Fed's plans to cut interest rates during the year, as it could help the Democrats win the presidential election. Then, he also said that Powell would not be allowed to continue if he was elected president again.
