On the club's website, it is written that Filppula is returning home and that a one-year contract has been signed with the Finn, but also that he simultaneously becomes one of the co-owners of Jokerit.

"Jokerit has been an extremely important club for me, so there was only one alternative for me. Jokerit has helped me a lot during my career, it's great to be back", he says to the club's website.

At the same time, the club also writes that Filppula will play for free for the club where he received major parts of his hockey upbringing.

"It was important for us to be able to offer Valtteri a comprehensive package that will continue even after his playing career. His commitment to the club is also strengthened by the fact that he will not burden our player budget at all during the coming season.

Filppula has won the Stanley Cup with Detroit Red Wings, but also Olympic Games and World Championship gold with the Finnish national team.
