There has been a lot of turmoil surrounding the Allsvenskan club lately.

A situation that escalated during the last derby, against Hammarby at Tele2 Arena, when supporters threw in firecrackers and pyrotechnics. The match was interrupted and was only completed the next day, which ended with the fourth loss against the Stockholm clubs.

"We perceive the event as a protest against the association's decision-making regarding the sports activities, reinforced by a negative derby record", the club wrote in a statement on their website.

The coaching duo was fired

Shortly after the derby loss, the sports management took action.

Coaches Kim Bergstrand and Thomas Lagerlöf were fired, after six years in the club where they, among other things, won the Swedish Championship and led the team to play in Europe.

It is now clear that Roberth Björknesjö will take over the coaching role for the rest of the season.

The 51-year-old – who previously played for the club's junior team – is thrown into the hot seat directly, as Vitoria awaits in the Conference League at Tele2 Arena already on Thursday.

"I have talked to Djurgården several times over the years, but now it has become a reality and I enter this assignment with a lot of energy and great joy", he says to the club's website.

"I like energetic football and have coached Brommapojkarna for many years where we had a possession-oriented football. So the idea is that we will drive the matches with Djurgården."

Hunting for a coach for next year

TT has sought out sports manager Bosse Andersson. To the club's website, he says:

"Roberth Björknesjö will come in on a short-term basis this fall as head coach for the team for the remaining matches of the season."

Björknesjö gets Agon Mehmeti and Hugo Berggren as assistant coaches.

The club announces that the work of recruiting a new coach for next season is in full swing.

Born: April 30, 1973.

Clubs as coach: Tumba, Huddinge, Brommapojkarna, Väsby, Syrianska, Värtan, Assyriska, Öster, Frej, Vasalund, Viggbyholm.

Current: Takes over Allsvenskan Djurgården for the rest of the season after the club earlier in the week fired Kim Bergstrand and Thomas Lagerlöf.
