Malmö confirmed for the Women's Top League: "Means everything"

Malmö FF could rejoice already at halftime against Örebro SK. Then it was clear that the team, together with Alingsås, takes the step up to the women's top division next season – after Umeå dropped points. It means everything to me, to us, and to the club, says Mia Persson to SVT.

Malmö had everything in their own hands ahead of the weekend's round in the women's second-highest football league, Elitettan.

At the same time, third-placed Umeå were forced to win, twelve points behind Malmö and eleven behind second-placed Alingsås with four matches left to play.

And if there were any hanging heads in Malmö's team after the first, goalless 45 minutes against Örebro, it quickly turned around when the final result from Umeå arrived during the halftime break: 0–0 for the Västerbotten team against Bollstanäs, thereby securing advancement for both Malmö FF and Alingsås to Damallsvenskan.

It means everything to me, to us, and to the club. Finally, we're taking the step up to Damallsvenskan, it's fantastic, says MFF's Mia Persson.

Malmö FF restarted their women's team ahead of 2020 in Division 4 and have since won four consecutive series titles. Whether they will also win in Elitettan remains to be seen – second-placed Alingsås still has a chance to challenge for first place.

For Umeå, it remains to try to hold on to their third place in the table, which means a qualifying spot for Damallsvenskan.

Malmö eventually won 2–0 against Örebro, after Beatrice Persson had given the visitors the lead with just over an hour played, and Alexia Mitkovska had extended the lead in the final minutes.
