Parts of Trump's gag order lifted

The muzzle that former President Donald Trump was saddled with was somewhat eased on Tuesday. Trump is now allowed to publicly comment on witnesses and jury members who have participated in the legal process directed against him.

The gag order imposed on former President Donald Trump was slightly lifted on Tuesday.

Trump is now allowed to publicly comment on witnesses and jury members who participated in the legal process against him.

In connection with the civil fraud case in New York that took place in the late spring, Donald Trump was gagged and forbidden from commenting on witnesses, the jury, and court personnel, among other things, with regard to their safety.

Just under a month ago, the jury found Trump guilty of several counts of accounting fraud. Now that the jury has spoken, the judge has chosen to lift parts of the gag order while awaiting the sentencing of the crimes on 11 July.

Parts of the gag order will still remain in place, but Trump can now once again make public comments about, among other things, porn star Stormy Daniels and his former lawyer Michael Cohen, both of whom had central roles as witnesses in the trial.

The decision to partially lift the gag order comes just a few days before Donald Trump's TV debate with the sitting President Joe Biden.

The decision comes at the same time as prosecutors in the Florida case involving classified documents are discussing a possible gag order for the former President there.
