Colombia is pressing Venezuela's leader Nicolás Maduro to prove his disputed election victory earlier this year.
Venezuela's government-friendly election authority needs to provide a more detailed account of the voting procedure and voter lists by January 10 at the latest – when socialist leader Maduro's current mandate expires, announces Colombia's Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo:
"Otherwise, Colombia, as the president (Gustavo Petro) has already made clear, will not recognize the results."
According to the official result announced after the election on July 28, Nicolás Maduro's authoritarian regime secured another six years in power, with just over half of the votes. However, the result has been questioned by large parts of the international community.
The Venezuelan opposition has presented its own exit poll, which allegedly shows that Maduro's challenger Edmundo González Urrutia actually won the election with around two-thirds of the votes.
