A prison officer at a correctional facility in central Sweden became pregnant with a former inmate – who had served a sentence for multiple rapes.
Now she is being punished with a month's salary deduction, reports Dagens Juridik.
Last spring, the Swedish Prison and Probation Service was informed that the prison officer was suspected of having a relationship with a former inmate she had met while he was serving a four-year prison sentence for seven rapes, assault, and gross violation of a woman's integrity.
Confronted with the allegations, the then-pregnant woman denied them and provided a different name for the child's father. However, a population registration check a few months later revealed that the former inmate was registered as the child's father.
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service's personnel responsibility board is punishing the woman with 30 days' salary deduction – the highest possible penalty. This is for initiating an "improper" relationship with the man and subsequently failing to inform her employer about the situation.
