All houses have been reduced to rubble, says Mohammed al-Najjar, a 33-year-old Gazan who returned to his home in the refugee camp of Jabalia after Israel's latest offensive there.

Israeli forces have carried out massive bombardments and a hard ground offensive in the area in the northern part of the Gaza Strip over the past few weeks.

Last weekend, Israel's army announced that it was withdrawing from Jabalia. The military reported that seven people, who were taken hostage by Hamas during the terror attack in Israel on October 7, were recovered by the military during the operation.

In recent days, hundreds of Palestinians have flooded the area to try to find their homes and rescue what's left of their belongings. Men, women, and children have been walking around streets where their houses once stood – now filled with gray concrete rubble, according to AFP correspondents on the scene.

Charred furniture, beds, and shattered iron doors lie scattered almost everywhere in the refugee camp, where more than 100,000 Palestinians lived, according to UN figures from before the outbreak of war.
