A Kenyan police force that is to lead an international operation aimed at curbing the widespread gang violence in Haiti took off from Nairobi late on Monday, says Kenya's Interior Minister Kithure Kindiki in a statement.
According to a government source, there were approximately 400 police officers on board the plane.
Kenya committed itself last year to sending around 1,000 police officers to the severely battered Caribbean nation, but it has been delayed due to legal uncertainties.
