The tall centre-back broke through in his parent club Lens before moving on to the Spanish giant club Real Madrid. There, he had ten extremely successful seasons – often alongside Sergio Ramos in the acclaimed centre-back duo.

In total, he won the Spanish league three times and the Champions League four times.

He then moved on to Manchester United, with whom he won the FA Cup last season. Before this season, he signed with Serie A newcomers Como. But there will be no continued career on the pitch – instead, a new challenge awaits with the Italian club off the pitch.

Varane does not want to reveal exactly what it is about, though.

"I will stay with Como. But without using my football boots and shin guards. It's something I'm looking forward to and will tell more about soon", he writes.

Varane also has a long and successful national team career behind him. The great highlight was in 2018 when he won the World Championship gold with France. Varane started when Croatia was defeated 4–2 in the World Championship final in Moscow.

"I regret nothing. I wouldn't change anything. I have won more than I could ever have dreamed of", he writes.

Varane then concludes his long post on Instagram by thanking football.
