Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyj has ordered the new head of the country's state security service to purge individuals who in various ways are deemed to discredit the unit, reports The Guardian.
Last month, the country's security service SBU reported that two officers in the security service had been arrested on suspicion of planning the murder of, among others, President Zelenskyj. As a consequence of the incident, the head of the unit, Sergij Rud, was dismissed.
The new head, Oleksyj Morozov, took office on Monday and, according to Zelenskyj, one of his main tasks will be to ensure that only individuals loyal to Ukraine are employed within the security service in the future.
"Of course, the authority must be purged of all those who do not put Ukraine before themselves or who discredit the state security service", Zelenskyj writes on Telegram, according to The Guardian.
