Sweden has joined a project to develop European medium-range robots together with France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, and Italy, reports Ekot.

The cooperation was signed during a NATO meeting in Brussels last week.

Russia uses long-range systems every week and then it is also necessary for Europe to acquire a better capability to deter Russia from any temptation to aggression, says Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M).

The project is called ELSA – European Long Range Strike Approach. The aim is to develop robots with a range of 100-200 miles that will serve as a deterrent. The systems can be land-, air-, or sea-based.

According to the Defense Minister, it is too early to say when Sweden would have access to the systems and what it will cost.
